While on a family holiday with Yvonne and his two sons James and Alex in Cyprus in 1991, David encountered a huge fierce looking spider in the bathroom of the holiday apartment.

Deciding at first to not tackle the spider himself David went to speak to the manager on the ground floor of the resort and proceeded to describe in detail the dangerous looking spider with visible fangs he'd encountered in the apartment.

The resort manager assured David that no spiders on the island were dangerous and absolutely could not bite or harm his family. With resort staff offering no assistance with the spiders removal, David determined to make his point, returned to the apartment and scooped up the spider in a large glass.

Marching back down to the resort manager David again asked whether the manager thought the spider looked dangerous and proceeded to chuck the spider onto the manager's desk.

Upon seeing the size of the spider the manager startled and jumped straight out of the open (ground floor) window next to his desk as David laughed to himself and shouted out the window "I told you it was big!"

David loved to tell this story to friends and family over the years and it never failed to make him grin and laugh every time he pictured the manager jumping out of the window.
